Fabulous Covid Getaway
Just on our way home from a fabulous getaway at the Old Post Office. The cottage is a beautifully quaint, peaceful haven for the perfect break from Covid-19 and daily life stresses. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again. The bottle of wine, flowers and biscuits on arrival marked the perfect start and the Tassimo machine meant we could treat ourselves to a hot chocolate out in the back garden watching the beautiful cows run in their field (we purchased hot chocolate pods but coffee and tea was provided).
Everything was very clean and the owners had gone the extra mile to ensure your safety – even down to arm chair covers (very cute covered with ducks) that can be washed i n between users. From a personal point of view, I love that the owners pre foil-lined baking trays for us!
We both enjoyed the jacuzzi bath after our days spent walking in the moors and toiletries were provided. The kitchen had everything you could need to cook for yourselves and there was access to Netflix if you did just want to chill. The bed was comfy, sofas were comfy, loved that there was a dining table so when we were in to eat dinner, we could sit at the table, enjoy our dinner and bottle of wine with the candles lit on the window sills. As desperate as I was to light the fire, the weather was just too mild to justify it, but all the logs and fire lighters were provided should you wish to do so.
In terms of what is nearby, Malton was a 15 minute drive and had plenty of pubs and cafes as well as a Lidl and Morrisons. We visited York and utilised the nearby park and ride as well as visiting Whitby, both less than an hours drive from the cottage. We also did the Wainstones Way which is an 8 mile circular walk in the north of the moors as well as walking another 8 mile circular from Robin Hoods Bay to Ravenscar. Back again to the cottage, there is a walk you can do straight out the cottage and turn an immediate right and you can head over to the lavender fields (unfortunately closed by the time we got there at 6!) and about 45 minutes walk away is a really cute bakery in Scampston serving predominantly pastries as well as coffee where you can sit outside and eat/drink. We didn’t eat in either of the nearby pubs or fish and chips shop so can’t comment there unfortunately. Really lovely getaway and would highly recommend 🙂

Christmas and New Year! Our 9th time here for the festive season. Always cosy by the fire place, good nights of sleep, fresh air, plenty of walks in the hills.

Lovely welcome (as always) what it is about this cottage I don’t know but peace descends when I step through the door! Had a lovely day at Filey, bright sunshine so sparkly sea but very bracing wind.
